Makna Forest is a humid, jungle-like rainforest, an area where monsters grow to be larger than they would be in other regions of Bionis. Shulk and company reach this part of the Bionis, the back of the titan, by going through Bionis' Interior. At the center of the forest is the lone Nopon settlement on Bionis, known as Frontier Village.
 Welcome to the Jungle
Upon reaching Makna Forest, a cutscene plays, depicting a fight between Melia, her personal guards and a Telethia. She insists on staying to fight despite the urging of her personal bodyguards to flee, and unfortunately for her, her personal guards are all killed by the Telethia.
As the group arrives, Reyn-along with everyone else-complains about the heat of the jungle.
After crossing Bridge One and going further into the forest, they find a young girl with wings on her head unconscious, and the girl is immediately recognized by Shulk from his visions. Sharla takes a look, and notices that she is suffering from an Ether deficiency. Shulk sets off solo to find some Pure Ether Crystals, which can be found at Lakeside on the other side of Bridge One.
Shulk does find the Cyrstals, only to be approached by a mysterious Homs by the name of Alvis, and is attacked by Telethia, who are still able to hit Shulk despite his visions. Alvis reveals that Telethia are able to read one's mind, then he grabs the Monado and promptly unlocks a new Monado Art, Monado Purge, defeating one of the Puera Telethia.
Thanks to Monado Purge and Alvis' help, the Telethia are defeated, but the primary Telethia is wounded. Before Shulk can get his questions answered, Reyn shows up wondering what's holding his buddy up.
Sharla uses the crystals to heal Melia, who slaps Shulk upon waking up when he was just checking on her! After introducing herself she doesn't say what her situation is but does offer to show the group a way out of the forest via the Nopon Village.
 Hunting the Telethia
In Nopon Village, the party is tasked with defeating the Telethia that has been terrorizing the area, with this year's Heropon in tow, Riki.
The east side of Makna Forest has a number of powerful monsters, including monsters that are in the mid-to-upper 90's in level! While the strongest of that bunch won't appear until after Mechonis Core, those beasts that are there are strong enough to defeat you in a single blow, so stay alert!
The Telethia can be found at the Decayed Forest in the easternmost part of the forest.
 Setting Off for Valak Mountain
After the events that take place at Prison Island, you'll be able to access a part of Makna Forest that couldn't be accessed before due to a broken bridge, near some Giants Ruins. This leads to Valak Mountain, the right arm of the Bionis.
A sidequest becomes available to fix that rope bridge at this point in the game, a sidequest required in a quest chain that will involve those Giants Ruins.
 Post-Mechonis Core
After the events of Mechonis Core, a Level 99 Unique Monster will appear in the area which you fought the Leone Telethia. This is the strongest of the Sauros monsters and it utilizes a Spike that will counter your attacks by inflicting your party members with Topple. To top it off, it has an Instant Death art that can only be countered with Monado Shield or Divine Protect gems.
